Acropolis Museum Cafe and Restaurant, Greek restaurant at Acropolis Museum, Athens, Greece
The Acropolis Museum Cafe and Restaurant is a dining venue on the second floor of the Acropolis Museum in Athens, with large windows facing the ancient monuments on the hill. A ground-floor cafe also operates separately from the main restaurant above.
The restaurant opened in 2009 alongside the Acropolis Museum, which was built over a site containing ancient remains from different periods of the city's past. During construction, workers uncovered structures that were preserved in place rather than removed.
The restaurant serves Greek dishes made with ingredients from regional producers, giving visitors a taste of local cooking traditions. The menu changes with the seasons, reflecting what is available from nearby markets and farms.
The ground-floor cafe is open to everyone without a museum ticket, while the second-floor restaurant is reached by elevator or stairs from inside the building. Going earlier in the day or later in the afternoon gives you better natural light on the view toward the hill.
Through glass openings in the floor of the restaurant, visitors can see ancient remains discovered during the building's construction directly below their feet. This means you are sitting above layers of the old city without stepping outside.
