Minato Science Museum, Science museum in Toranomon, Minato, Tokyo

The Minato Science Museum is a science museum in Toranomon, Minato, Tokyo. It features a permanent exhibition area, a laboratory for workshops and experiments, and a planetarium with a 15-meter dome that seats over a hundred people.

The museum opened in June 2020 in Toranomon and was created to make science accessible to people of all ages. It shares its building with the Meteorological Science Museum of the Japan Meteorological Agency, which occupies the second floor.

The museum is organized around four themes: nature, city, sea, and human. Each section invites visitors to interact with displays that connect science to everyday life in a port district that faces Tokyo Bay.

Entry to the permanent exhibition is free, but the planetarium requires a separate ticket. The museum is a short walk from Toranomon Hills station and has no car parking, so arriving by public transport is the practical choice.

The planetarium uses an Orpheus projector that can display up to 8 million stars on the dome, paired with 4K video backgrounds. It also offers an infrared listening system for visitors with hearing difficulties and seats for wheelchair users.
