Old NH7 is a national highway that once ran through multiple Indian states from Punjab to Uttarakhand. The route crosses through diverse terrain including plains, plateaus, and mountain regions over approximately 845 kilometers.
The highway underwent major changes in 2010 when it was integrated into National Highway 44 as part of India's road modernization efforts. This reorganization consolidated the national highway network and updated its classification system.
The route serves numerous Hindu pilgrimage destinations, enabling travelers to reach sacred sites like Rishikesh, Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Badrinath throughout the year.
