Eataly, Highway restaurant at Secchia Ovest service area, Modena, Italy
Eataly is a restaurant and food marketplace at a highway service area that occupies two levels and offers multiple dining options. The ground floor contains a bakery and café, while the first floor provides a spacious dining room seating approximately 350 guests.
The project emerged from a strategic partnership between Eataly and Autogrill to elevate highway dining through quality Italian food offerings. This collaboration represented a shift in how people viewed dining at service areas.
The restaurant serves local specialties from Emilia-Romagna, including Modena tortellini, Parmigiano Reggiano, and handmade piadina from artisanal producers. Diners can observe how these foods are prepared, offering insight into regional eating traditions.
The facility operates 24 hours daily and accepts credit cards, making it convenient for travelers at any time. The parking area includes electric vehicle charging stations, and the entire building is accessible to wheelchairs.
A wood-fired bakery with open preparation methods produces fresh bread and focaccia daily using traditional techniques visible to customers. These open baking processes give visitors a glimpse of artisanal food production.
