Parco archeologico Novi Ark, Archaeological site in Parco Novi Sad, Modena, Italy.
Parco archeologico Novi Ark is an excavation site in Modena that showcases Roman burials and a reconstructed cobblestone road. The site also displays an extensive collection of terracotta amphorae housed in an underground facility.
Excavations from 2009 to 2011 uncovered hundreds of burials spanning different periods of history. The finds reveal layers of Roman graves alongside medieval burials and remains linked to a catastrophic epidemic.
The site displays Roman funerary monuments with inscriptions and decorations from the imperial period of Mutina. These memorials offer a direct view of how people from that era honored their dead and how they marked burial places with written records.
Access to the remains is available both in the park setting and in an underground facility. Visitors should prepare for stairs and multiple levels when exploring the full site.
The entire excavation area was lifted five meters from its original depth and relocated to the surface to make room for a modern park. This unusual engineering feat allowed ancient structures to be preserved while repurposing the land.
