Foro Boario, Market square in Modena, Italy
Foro Boario is a market square in Modena with three arcaded galleries running along Corso Berengario, crowned by a central clock tower. The three-story building now houses the School of Economics.
The square was commissioned by Duke Francesco IV in 1833 and designed by architect Francesco Vandelli as a cattle market. It opened to the public in 1834.
The facade displays relief sculptures depicting shepherds and livestock that reflect the agricultural past of the Modena region. These decorative elements shape the appearance of the square and tell of the importance of cattle raising in the area.
The site is integrated into an academic space and can be visited by students and faculty. Its central location along Corso Berengario makes it easily accessible from the city center.
The building was originally known as Piazza d'Armi, a drill and training ground for soldiers. Later it hosted major events, including concerts.
