The complex was built in the early 2000s as part of the larger project to create Malaysia's new administrative capital, Putrajaya. It was planned from the start as a leisure area for residents of the new city.
The marina integrates Malaysian maritime traditions with contemporary water sports, hosting dragon boat races and international water skiing championships throughout the year.
The complex is easy to reach from central Putrajaya and has plenty of parking on site. Coming in the morning or early evening helps avoid the hottest part of the day.
The lake that the complex sits on is a man-made reservoir created specifically for the new city of Putrajaya. The water that defines so much of the city's layout did not exist before the city was built.
