Crocodile Adventureland Langkawi, Crocodile farm in Teluk Datai Bay, Malaysia
Crocodile Adventureland Langkawi is a crocodile park in northern Langkawi, Malaysia, organized around a series of ponds that house animals of different ages and species. A separate section of the grounds is set aside for injured reptiles recovering before they can be returned to their habitat.
The park opened in 1993 at a time when native Malaysian crocodile species were at serious risk of disappearing from the wild. Over the years, the site shifted from a simple farm into a place focused on breeding and recovery of these animals.
Daily shows at the park present crocodile behavior in a way that ties in with local stories about these reptiles and their place in Malaysian nature. Watching the handlers work with the animals gives visitors a sense of how deeply these creatures are woven into the region's wildlife traditions.
Going in the morning is a good idea since the animals tend to be more active earlier in the day and the shows are scheduled throughout the morning. The grounds are mostly open to the sun, so light clothing and sun protection will make the visit more comfortable.
One activity at the park lets visitors hold a fishing rod with food attached to the line, drawing young crocodiles to leap out of the water to grab it. Watching the animals launch themselves upward from just a short distance away gives a clear sense of how fast and powerful they are.
