Dong Tam Snake Farm

Dong Tam Snake Farm is a snake breeding and research facility located in Tien Giang Province in the Mekong Delta region. The property houses non-venomous snakes, pythons, and venomous species in specialized enclosures and ponds throughout the grounds.

The Vietnamese military established this center to produce snake venom for medical purposes and offer treatment for snake bites in the Mekong Delta. The facility grew out of the need to address health issues in a region where snake encounters were common.

Visitors watch how handlers work with snakes in daily demonstrations of venom extraction, learning how local communities interact with these animals. The farm shows how reptiles are part of everyday life in the Mekong Delta region.

The grounds are easy to navigate with clear pathways connecting the different enclosures throughout the property. Visitors should prepare for hot and humid weather, bringing water and sun protection during the warmest months of the year.

The facility extracts venom from hundreds of snakes daily, with the extracted material going directly to the production of anti-venom and medicines used across the country. This venom supply is essential for medical laboratories throughout Vietnam.
