Vinh Trang Temple, Buddhist temple in Mỹ Tho, Vietnam
Vinh Trang is a Buddhist temple in Mỹ Tho, Vietnam, that spreads over two hectares along the Bảo Định canal and includes several ceremonial buildings, gardens with lotus ponds, and fruit trees. The main building contains statues of Amitabha Buddha, Gautama Buddha, arhats, and bodhisattvas in different halls.
The building was erected in 1849 and suffered damage between 1859 and 1862 during French colonial battles. Thích Thiện Đề then led reconstruction efforts and brought the temple to its current condition.
The temple displays its name in Chinese characters written by Tao Văn Đông from Tân An on a wooden board. Visitors see a place where monks live and worshippers from the region come to pray.
The temple is open during the day and allows visitors to walk through the gardens and enter the different halls. Respectful clothing is expected, and the grounds are laid out on level terrain, making most areas easy to reach.
The main gate is made of steel, while two side gates are built from concrete designed to look like a fortress. Craftsmen from Huế created these gates in 1933 and gave them a military appearance.
