Phaeng Yai Waterfall, Mountain waterfall in Ko Pha-ngan, Thailand

Phaeng Yai Waterfall is a multi-tiered cascade on Ko Pha-ngan island that plunges from a high cliff in the mountains through granite rocks and dense forest. The waterfall flows across several levels, with each tier creating distinct pools and viewpoints for visitors to explore.

The waterfall area was incorporated into Than Sadet-Ko Pha-ngan National Park to protect the natural surroundings. A ranger station was established to oversee visitor access and conserve the forest ecosystem.

The name Phaeng originates from the local dialect referring to small rock shelters found along the cascade. You can observe these natural formations as you move through the different levels of the waterfall.

Access is via a dirt road to the park entrance, where hiking trails lead to different levels and viewpoints. Wear proper footwear and exercise caution on slippery rocks, especially after rainfall.

From a summit viewpoint near the waterfall, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the entire island and sunsets over the Gulf of Thailand. This elevated vantage point offers a completely different perspective from the pools at waterfall level.
