Than Prawet Waterfall

Than Prawet Waterfall is a multi-tiered cascade in Ban Tai, Thailand, flowing down limestone rock formations and surrounded by dense tropical forest. The site is home to native plants and diverse bird species that inhabit the surrounding woodland.

The waterfall served as a vital water source for local communities during Ban Tai's early settlement period in the 20th century. Its importance to the region's water supply made it integral to the development of the area.

The site becomes a gathering place during Thai New Year celebrations when local residents honor water spirits and make ritual offerings to the falls. These ceremonies reflect how deeply the waterfall is woven into community traditions and spiritual beliefs.

The main parking area serves as the starting point, with a marked trail leading through the forest to the waterfall. Visit during monsoon season to see the water flow at its most impressive.

Local fishermen use handmade bamboo traps to catch small fish in the pools at the base of the waterfall. This traditional practice offers a rare glimpse into a craft technique passed down through generations.
