Khao Ra

Khao Ra is the highest peak on Ko Pha-ngan island, rising approximately 627 meters above sea level. The slopes are covered with dense tropical vegetation and reveal granite rock formations throughout.

For centuries, fishermen from the surrounding waters used this natural elevation as a navigation landmark to guide their boats around the island. The peak served as an essential reference point for local maritime communities.

Local people gather at certain spots on the mountain to perform traditional rituals honoring the natural spirits they believe protect the island. These spiritual practices remain an active part of community life today.

The hike to the summit takes around three hours for a round trip and requires moderate fitness. Water and rest areas are available at the base, so plan to bring plenty of supplies for the climb.

The mountain contains multiple distinct climate zones, each supporting different plant species ranging from coastal vegetation to mountain flora. This ecological diversity across different elevations creates a surprising natural laboratory.
