Green elephant sanctuary park
Green Elephant Sanctuary Park is a wildlife park on the northern part of Phuket island, in the Choeng Thale subdistrict, where visitors can spend time with elephants in an open outdoor setting. The grounds include grassy areas, trees, mud pits, and water spots that allow the animals to move around freely throughout the day.
The park was founded to give elephants that had previously worked in tourism or logging a different way of life. It grew as part of a wider shift in Thailand that began gaining traction in the 2000s, when attitudes toward elephants in tourism started to change.
The park's name signals an approach to keeping elephants without chains or hooks, letting them move and behave on their own terms. Visitors can watch the animals feed, roll in mud, and rest in groups, which gives a direct sense of how elephants spend their days when left to their own pace.
Wear clothes that can get wet and muddy, and bring a towel since part of the activities take place in water or mud. Sunscreen and insect repellent are worth having on hand, as all activities happen outdoors over several hours.
The park runs half-day tours that include hotel pickup, a traditional Thai meal, and professional photos taken during the visit. Everything is bundled together, so visitors do not need to arrange anything separately before or after the outing.
