Founded over a century ago by Dr. Augusto Arruda on inherited orange tree estates, this family-run plantation has maintained traditional biological cultivation methods across five generations, preserving agricultural heritage and local farming expertise in the Azores.
The plantation serves as a living museum that demonstrates how local growers adapted tropical pineapple cultivation to the temperate island climate, becoming an important symbol of Azorean agricultural identity and traditional horticultural knowledge passed down through generations.
The farm opens daily from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM and offers free guided tours with detailed explanations about cultivation techniques, while paid tastings of fresh pineapples and derived products are available at the on-site shop.
Visitors can taste homemade pineapple liqueur prepared using a family recipe passed down through generations, sample pineapple cocktails including pina colada and mojito variations, and purchase handcrafted local souvenirs made from farm-grown fruit at the plantation store.
