Wild Pacific Trail - Lighthouse Loop

Wild Pacific Trail - Lighthouse Loop

Wild Pacific Trail - Lighthouse Loop is a 2.6-kilometer coastal route in Ucluelet that starts in old-growth forest and follows the rocky shoreline with multiple viewpoints. The Amphitrite Point Lighthouse, operational since 1915, stands along this loop and flashes a white light every 12 seconds to guide ships.

The lighthouse was built in 1915 following the 1905 wreck of the Pass of Melfort on the reefs, which killed the entire crew. This tragedy prompted authorities to construct a warning beacon to protect ships from the dangerous waters and reefs in the area.

The lighthouse bears the name of a Greek sea goddess, Amphitrite. Today, locals and visitors alike use this coastal route as a place to connect with the wild ocean and witness the power of nature that has shaped life in this remote region.

The loop is accessible year-round during daylight hours and takes less than an hour to complete. Free parking is available along Coast Guard Road near the trailhead, and dogs are permitted if kept on a leash.

The forest displays twisted and bent tree shapes caused by years of strong winds and salty air exposure, a phenomenon called Krummholz. These unusual growths are a distinctive feature of this rugged coastal environment that few travelers notice at first glance.
