Bora-Izumi Paradise Beach Park is a sand beach and water park on Miyakojima, an island in southern Japan. It combines an open sandy area, a freshwater pool fed by island spring water, and a designated swimming zone protected by surrounding cliffs.
Miyakojima was an independent kingdom for centuries before becoming part of Japan in the 19th century. This beach site was developed as a leisure facility as tourism on the island grew through the 20th century.
A small restaurant on the beach serves traditional Okinawan food, including taco rice and soki soba, a pork rib noodle soup. Eating there while looking out at the water is one of the simple ways to experience local island cooking.
The park is about 25 minutes by car from Miyako Airport, and renting a car is the most convenient way to get there. On site, changing rooms, lockers, showers, and restrooms make a full day visit easy to manage.
Right beside the ocean, there is a freshwater pool filled with spring water from inside the island. After swimming in the sea, visitors can rinse off the salt and cool down in the pool before heading back.
