Seaside Lagoon
Seaside Lagoon is a shallow, heated saltwater pool at the ocean's edge in Redondo Beach, kept calm by a breakwater system. Water flows from offshore at about 200,000 gallons per hour, treated and filtered to keep it safe and clean for swimmers and visitors.
The lagoon originated as a cooling system for a nearby power plant, with seawater diverted for that purpose. Over time it became a public recreation area and now serves as a popular family destination in the King Harbor area.
The name reflects its location beside the ocean with a protected water space. Families and couples use this spot to swim and relax away from the open ocean's strong currents and waves.
The site opens from late spring through early fall, typically on weekends and holidays from morning to late afternoon. The calm, shallow water with lifeguards on duty makes it ideal for families with young children seeking a safe alternative to the open ocean.
Water in the lagoon comes from deeper offshore areas and is actually used as a cooling system for a nearby power facility before being pumped in. This industrial connection is often invisible to visitors but makes the spot a unique example of how recreation and local infrastructure work together.
