Tabiteuea
Tabiteuea is an island in Kiribati located in the southern Gilbert Islands. It consists of two connected land masses separated by a narrow channel and surrounded by coral reefs that shape its coastline.
The island served as an important settlement center for the Kiribati people and played a role in the region's traditional cultural development. Like much of the country, it experienced changes through colonial rule and later gained independence with Kiribati in the late 20th century.
The island is accessible by boat, as Kiribati has limited air connections beyond main islands. Visitors should expect basic facilities and consider hiring a local guide to explore the area safely and learn about the community.
