Chomoni Beach

Chomoni Beach is a white sand beach on the eastern coast of Grande Comore, bordered by coconut trees and dotted with dark volcanic rocks. The shoreline extends gently into the water and is framed by the surrounding palms and natural features.

The coast became a landing point from the 15th century for Arab traders who established maritime routes across the Indian Ocean. These early contacts shaped how the region was settled and developed.

Fishermen from the area still work here using traditional methods, sailing wooden boats and casting hand-knotted nets passed down through generations. This way of life shapes the daily rhythm of the beach and shows how deeply connected local people are to the sea.

The beach is best for swimming during morning and midday hours, especially between May and October when conditions are most favorable. Regular access exists via the road, though visitors should be aware of tidal patterns that affect swimming areas.

Natural pools form in the volcanic rocks at low tide, where tropical fish and crustaceans gather in shallow water. These tidal pools offer visitors a chance to see local marine life up close.
