Grande Mosquée d'Itsandra Mdjini

Built during the 19th century, this mosque reflects the strong maritime connections between Arab traders and the Comorian archipelago.

Muslims from surrounding neighborhoods gather in large numbers for Friday prayers and religious celebrations throughout the Islamic calendar.

The mosque opens daily from 5:00 AM to 8:30 PM, with separate entrances and prayer spaces for men and women.

Local craftsmen incorporated coral stones from nearby reefs into the foundation and walls during its construction.
