Cala Berretta

Cala Berretta is a beach with white pebbles and clear Mediterranean waters framed by limestone cliffs within the Zingaro Nature Reserve. The bay's horseshoe shape offers natural protection and creates an intimate setting between steep rocky banks.

This cove forms part of Sicily's first protected nature area, established in 1981 to safeguard the coastal landscape. The creation of this reserve marked a turning point in preventing development along this shoreline.

Local fishermen work these waters using time-honoured methods that connect the community to the sea in meaningful ways. Their presence shapes the rhythm of daily life along this stretch of coast.

Visitors reach this beach on foot via a walking trail of about 2 kilometers from the southern entrance, following clearly marked paths through the reserve. Plan to arrive early and bring water and sturdy footwear, as the terrain is rocky and exposed.

This cove sits at the midpoint between the reserve's two main entrances, making it accessible from either side. Its particular geological shape provides shelter from wind and creates calmer water conditions than other bays in the area.
