Lake Mohegan Beach is a sandy beach on a freshwater lake in Fairfield with designated swimming zones for different experience levels. The shore is surrounded by 170 acres of protected woodland with hiking trails throughout the area.
The lake formed as a result of gravel extraction during construction of the Merritt Parkway in the mid-20th century. The town purchased the land in stages from 1967 to 1985 to create this public recreation area.
Families gather here during summer months for swimming and shared activities in the water. The beach serves as a gathering spot where locals enjoy the lake and spend time with one another.
The area is accessible daily with parking available and picnic spots for visitors. For swimming, come during summer months when lifeguards are on duty at designated water zones.
The Mill River flows through the area creating natural rapids as it cascades over rock formations. This waterway supports a rich variety of native plants and wildlife in the surrounding landscape.
