Morne Bruce, Scenic viewpoint in Roseau, Dominica.
Morne Bruce is a hilltop viewpoint in Roseau positioned around 400 feet (120 meters) above sea level. From this height, visitors see the city, the Caribbean Sea, and surrounding mountains.
From 1770 to 1854, the British military stationed troops here with cannons to defend against French attacks. This military use shaped the location for several generations.
The large concrete cross erected in 1928 by Bishop James Moris represents faith for the community. It shapes how the hilltop appears from many parts of the city.
Visitors can reach the hilltop by car or walk via Jack's Walk, a path starting from the Botanical Gardens entrance. Sturdy footwear helps on the path, especially in wet conditions.
The site contains preserved structures from the British military period, including former barracks. These buildings now serve as a police training facility, connecting past and present uses.
