Morne Watt

Morne Watt is a stratovolcano in southeastern Dominica that rises to 1,224 meters within Morne Trois Pitons National Park. The mountain displays dark volcanic rocks and features ongoing thermal activity visible in the surrounding valleys.

The volcano produced major pyroclastic flows roughly 1,300 years ago that reshaped the southeastern landscape of Dominica. This powerful eruption left a lasting mark on the island's geology.

Scientists and researchers frequently study Morne Watt's geological patterns to understand volcanic behavior in the Caribbean island chain.

Visitors should wear sturdy hiking boots and carry sufficient water when exploring the marked trails through the Valley of Desolation. The terrain can be demanding and wet, so proper preparation is important for a safe visit.

The mountain contains active fumaroles and hot springs in its northeastern section that carry minerals to the surface and color the rocks with vivid hues. These geothermal features create a landscape noticeably shaped by ongoing thermal exchange.
