Waitukubuli trail Segment 3, Mountain trail in Saint George Parish, Dominica.
Waitukubuli Trail Segment 3 winds through forested mountainsides, linking the villages of Bellevue Chopin and Wotten Waven. The path climbs and descends gradually, passing through different forest types and terrain as it crosses from one settlement to another.
The path originally connected communities for trade and daily travel over the mountains. It was formally marked and maintained as part of a larger hiking network starting in the early 2010s.
Local farmers use the hillsides along the route to grow medicinal and food plants using methods passed down over many years. These cultivation practices shape how the landscape looks and reflects how communities connect to the land.
Expect a full day of walking with steep sections and wet ground in many areas, so wear proper hiking boots. The blue and yellow trail markers are visible throughout and help guide you through the more confusing forest sections.
At the trail's end, hikers discover natural hot springs fed by water heated beneath the earth through volcanic geology. These warm pools offer a surprising reward after the demanding climb.
