Torkul Göleti, Artificial pond in Düzce Merkez, Turkey
Torkul Göleti is a large artificial pond located in central Düzce at approximately 1251 meters elevation, surrounded by beech, fir, hornbeam, chestnut, maple, and black pine trees. The water remains generally calm and reflects the sky clearly on fair days, with paths running around the perimeter for easy exploration.
The pond was formed by volcanic collapse and later developed to meet local water needs, supplying nearby farms and the town of Düzce. Over generations, it has become an integral part of the community's daily life and landscape.
Vehicles can only be parked at the upper part of the pond, with exploration done on foot from there. There are no facilities like toilets or electricity on site, so bring water and essential supplies.
The area hosts various mushroom species, particularly in November when visitors can find mushrooms of different sizes. Wild animals including boars, bears, jackals, and foxes also inhabit the region.
