Bar Dei Giardini, Bar in a historic greenhouse in Venice, Italy
Bar Dei Giardini is a bar inside a 19th-century greenhouse in Venice, near the public gardens and the Biennale grounds. The building has tall glass walls and green-painted steel frames that give it a Victorian look, with plenty of natural light inside.
The Serra dei Giardini was built in the 19th century to shelter palm trees and other warm-weather plants for the public gardens. It fell into neglect for decades until the city of Venice restored it in the early 1990s and handed it to the group Nonsoloverde.
The bar is easy to reach on foot from the Giardini vaporetto stop by following Viale Giuseppe Garibaldi. It is also a good stop in cooler weather, as the glass roof keeps the inside warm and bright throughout the day.
A cat lives freely inside the greenhouse and often wanders among the tables, drawn by the warmth of the space. Just outside the north entrance, Nonsoloverde sells potted plants and flowers that visitors can take home.
