Kladno is a city in Central Bohemia, located about 16 miles (25 kilometers) northwest of Prague in the Kladno District. The city spreads across several neighborhoods and serves as the largest administrative and economic center in the region.
The settlement began as two forest villages and grew rapidly after coal mining started in the 1840s. Heavy industry shaped the town throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, transforming it from a rural area into an industrial center.
The city maintains strong connections to ice hockey through the Rytíři Kladno club, which has produced numerous professional players for international leagues.
The municipal office on Starosty Pavla square offers administrative services on selected weekdays with extended hours on Mondays and Wednesdays. Visitors can reach the city by regional roads from Prague or use the commuter train connection.
The local ice hockey club Rytíři Kladno has produced several players who went on to compete in North American professional leagues. The former Poldi steelworks remains a landmark of the metallurgical tradition and continues to manufacture specialized alloys today.
