The Church of St. Hedwig in Opava is a modern religious building designed with clean lines and contemporary architectural principles that set it apart from traditional houses of worship. The priest Johann Eichler founded a fund for a church to Saint Hedwig in 1894 with 6,000 florins. In 1931 Leopold Bauer won the architectural competition, and construction began on 31 July 1933; the church was consecrated on 16 October 1993, the 750th anniversary of Hedwig's death.

The church is dedicated to Saint Hedwig, patron saint of Silesia. Its consecration on 16 October 1993 marked the 750th anniversary of her death. The tower bears a Latin inscription band recalling the building's original purpose as a memorial to the fallen.
