Little Caesars Arena, Multi-purpose sports arena in Midtown Detroit, United States
Little Caesars Arena is a multi-purpose sports facility in Midtown Detroit featuring a distinctive eight-story bowl construction with its playing surface well below street level. The venue holds more than nineteen thousand visitors for hockey games and slightly more for basketball, with seating arranged in steep tiers.
The facility opened in September 2017 and replaced two older sports venues where the city's professional teams previously played. Construction cost over eight hundred million dollars and marked the beginning of a larger urban development project in the neighborhood.
The name recalls the Roman founding legend, while the modern glass and steel facades reflect the city's urban transformation. Visitors today experience a lively center where sports fans, concertgoers, and residents from across the region gather and animate the public plaza in front of the building.
Four main entrances at street level lead into the building, which opens ninety minutes before sports events and somewhat later for other occasions. Visitors arriving by car can find parking in the surrounding area, while public transport stops within walking distance.
A covered walkway with a transparent plastic roof connects the main building to adjacent structures and creates a sheltered passage for visitors. This corridor integrates shops and office spaces directly into the overall architectural concept of the neighborhood.
