Cass Technical High School, Public technical high school in Midtown Detroit, United States
Cass Technical High School is a public technical high school in Midtown Detroit, Michigan. The 1920s building rises at 2501 Second Avenue and displays Collegiate Gothic architecture with brick and limestone facades spreading across several floors.
The institution opened in 1907 on the third floor of Cass Union School and relocated to its current building in 1922. World War delays pushed construction back by several years.
The school runs a harp program that has operated without interruption since 1925, training young musicians in this classical instrument. Its marching band has performed at several presidential inaugurations and remains a regular presence at major parades.
Admission follows academic performance criteria, and students choose specialized learning paths in ninth grade. The school offers more than twenty advanced courses, including programs in music, engineering, and sciences.
Graduates include singer Diana Ross, automobile engineer John DeLorean, and Olympic champion Eddie Tolan. The building holds a listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
