Warren's Cave

Warren's Cave is a limestone system in North-Central Florida with three distinct levels connected by miles of passages. These corridors pass through crystalline formations and sandy clay zones carved by water over thousands of years.

Colonel John Warren discovered this cave system in 1836 during military operations near San Felasco Hammock. The cave took his name and has since remained a notable geological feature in the region.

The National Speleological Society maintains the Warren Cave Nature Preserve to support geological research and educational initiatives about cave formations.

Visiting the cave requires obtaining a permit and following strict conservation rules to protect this sensitive environment. Plan for uneven terrain, tight passages, and bring reliable lighting as well as appropriate clothing for cool underground conditions.

The cave maintains a constant temperature of about 65 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. Some of the narrowest passages require crawling flat and are called squeezes by cavers, as they demand careful maneuvering to navigate through.
