Harn Museum of Art, University art museum in Gainesville, United States.
The Harn Museum of Art is an art museum on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, with several exhibition wings, a sculpture garden, and an auditorium. The permanent collection covers works from different parts of the world, alongside rotating special exhibitions.
The museum opened in 1990 thanks to a gift from the Harn family, becoming the university's main art facility. In 2012, a new wing was added to give the Asian collection its own dedicated space.
The museum holds works from Asia, Africa, and the Americas, each displayed in its own dedicated wing with a distinct feel. The African art section, in particular, draws visitors with objects that carry everyday meaning in their original communities.
The museum sits on the western edge of the University of Florida campus and is easy to reach on foot or by bike. Visitors can combine a walk through the galleries with time in the outdoor garden, which is part of the same grounds.
The museum is free and open to the general public, not only to students or university affiliates. This open-door policy makes it one of the few free art museums of its size in the southeastern United States.
