San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park, Natural landmark and state park in Alachua County, Florida.
San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park is a natural preserve and state park in Florida spanning thousands of acres of hardwood forests, swamps, and upland areas. The landscape supports populations of white-tailed deer, bobcats, and wild turkeys living within their native habitats.
People have inhabited this area for thousands of years, as shown by archaeological discoveries. An important mission settlement from the early 17th century left traces of European contact in the region.
The park maintains 56 archaeological sites representing different periods from Paleo-Indian settlements through 20th-century agricultural developments.
The park has two separate entrances offering different activities for visitors depending on their interests. The North entrance allows cycling and horseback riding, while the South section is primarily for hiking and walking.
The landscape contains limestone formations and elevation changes that support exceptionally large and old hardwood trees. These specimens represent some of the largest trees of their kind found within the region.
