Madame Tussauds New York, Wax museum in Times Square, New York, United States.
Madame Tussauds New York is a wax museum in Times Square that spreads across five floors and showcases more than 200 life-size replicas of famous people from film, sports, politics, and history. The exhibition is divided into several themed sections, with each room offering interactive elements and photo opportunities that place visitors directly beside the figures.
Marie Tussaud opened her first museum in 1835 in London after learning to create death masks in wax during the French Revolution. The New York branch opened in 2000 at Times Square and was the first American location of the chain.
The exhibition includes areas organized by themes such as film, sports, politics, and pop culture, with visitors moving freely between rooms. In the music section, several decades of American entertainment are represented through figures from different eras, often presented with recreated stage sets and costumes.
The visit typically lasts between one and two hours, with visitors choosing their own pace and spending as much time as they like in each room. Since the museum is located in a busy tourist district, arriving outside peak hours in the morning or late afternoon is advisable.
Each figure requires about 800 hours of work from around 20 artists, with real human hair inserted individually to create accurate replicas. The facial molds are sometimes taken directly from living celebrities to ensure proportions are accurate to the millimeter.
