5 Times Square, Glass skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, United States.
5 Times Square is a 38-story glass office tower in Midtown Manhattan, standing approximately 575 feet (175 meters) tall with a sleek glass facade. The lower three floors contain retail spaces, while the rest of the building provides office accommodation.
Construction started in 1999 after Ernst & Young signed a lease for the entire building, and it opened in 2002. The project was part of the broader development initiative for 42nd Street in this area.
The building contributes to Times Square's commercial character through its large electronic advertising displays visible from the street. The lower levels house retail shops that reflect the area's everyday business activity and attract daily foot traffic.
The building connects directly to the Times Square subway station, making it easy to reach. The retail spaces on the lower floors are directly accessible from street level, so you can browse without entering the office areas.
The foundation uses specially anchored caissons deep in the bedrock to prevent ground movement from the subway tunnels below. This engineering solution was necessary because of the extensive underground infrastructure running beneath the site.
