Todd Haimes Theatre, Historic Broadway theater in Midtown Manhattan, United States
Todd Haimes Theatre is a playhouse with 740 seats arranged over two levels in central Midtown Manhattan. The exterior shows brick and terracotta details inspired by Italian Renaissance architecture, while the interior uses a blue-and-gold color palette.
The building opened in 1918 as Selwyn Theatre and served for decades as a venue for plays and musicals. After a major renovation in 2000, it carried the name of an airline sponsor until receiving its current designation in 2024.
Named in 2024 after a longtime artistic director of the Roundabout Theatre Company, the venue hosts regular seasons of classic and contemporary plays performed by professional actors. Audiences often see revivals of American and European drama, reflecting the company's commitment to bringing established works to new generations.
The venue sits on West 42nd Street and can be reached on foot from several subway stations serving the ACE, 123, NRQW and BDFM lines. Visitors should allow extra time to navigate the busy surroundings and locate the entrance among other buildings on the block.
A ten-story glass facade lit by 300 computer-controlled lamps wraps the side of the building, making it easy to spot from several blocks away. This modern addition contrasts with the original 1910s brick front, showing how the building grew over time.
