McKee Bridge, Covered bridge in Jackson County, Oregon, US
McKee Bridge is a wooden covered bridge that crosses the Applegate River with a gabled roof design and spans approximately 90 feet. The structure features heavy timber framing characteristic of early-20th-century construction methods used in rural Oregon.
Built in 1917, the bridge connected the Blue Ledge Copper Mine to Jacksonville and supported regional mining and timber operations. Decades of use took their toll on the structure, leading to restoration efforts in recent years.
The bridge shows characteristics of early 1900s timber construction, with locals using the crossing for hiking and rural exploration today.
The bridge is accessible on foot and provides views of the river valley below as you cross. Visit during drier months when the approaches are easier to navigate and the surrounding area is more comfortable to explore.
After fire damage threatened the structure, comprehensive restoration work was completed in 2015 to return it to public use. The repairs preserved the original design while upgrading structural integrity and safety features.
