Jay Nixon Backcountry is an undeveloped state park mostly in Reynolds County, Missouri, with a 100-acre segment in Iron County. It lies next to Taum Sauk Mountain State Park and borders Ketcherside Conservation Area. The property has no facilities and is not open to the public.

Creation of the park was announced by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources in January 2017, when it held no facilities and could be reached only via the Ozark Trail. The website was soon updated to state that from February 2017 the park was closed with no access. On January 12, 2017, state senator Gary Romine and representative Paul Fitzwater filed bills to rename it Proffitt Mountain State Park.

The park is named for Governor Jay Nixon, under whom several new Missouri state parks were added. In January 2017 State Senator Gary Romine and State Representative Paul Fitzwater filed bills to rename it Proffitt Mountain State Park, a dispute that has followed the name since its announcement.
