Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, Theme park ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios, United States
Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway is an amusement ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios, United States, where guests board trackless trains that move independently through animated sets. Each vehicle follows its own path and responds to the storyline in real time as Mickey and Minnie navigate through different scenarios.
The attraction opened in March 2020 inside the Chinese Theatre building, replacing The Great Movie Ride. This building had been a central feature of the park since its opening in 1989 and now housed a new era of interactive entertainment.
The vehicles travel through scenes styled after Paul Rudish's television series, where classic Disney figures appear in flat, bright colors and simplified shapes. This visual language combines traditional hand-drawn animation with digital technology, creating a look that appeals to both children and adults.
Each vehicle seats eight people and the entire experience lasts about six minutes, including the opening scene. The trackless technology allows vehicles to spin and take different paths, so each ride may vary slightly in its movements.
The ride uses a projection technique that creates spatial depth in flat animations without requiring glasses. Walls, floors, and objects appear to open and shift as guests move through each scene.
