Mad Tea Party, Spinning teacup ride in Fantasyland, Hong Kong.
Mad Tea Party is a spinning ride in Fantasyland, Hong Kong Disneyland, featuring eighteen colorful teacups arranged on three small turntables that move across a large circular platform. Each cup spins individually while the turntables and the main platform rotate at the same time.
The ride was among the original attractions when Hong Kong Disneyland opened in 2005. The concept of this spinning attraction has existed in other parks since the 1950s.
The name refers to a scene in the 1951 animated film where Alice joins an unusual tea celebration. Visitors can turn the center wheel in each cup themselves and decide how fast their ride spins.
All visitors can ride regardless of height, and each cup holds up to four people. Turning the center wheel with more force increases the rotation speed while the cup circles with the platforms.
After dark, colored lanterns light the entire area and change their shades in rhythm with the music. The carnival melody accompanies the ride and strengthens the nostalgic carousel feeling.
