Bukit Pagon, Mountain summit near Limbang, Malaysia.
Bukit Pagon is a mountain summit straddling the Malaysia-Brunei border with two distinct peaks surrounded by thick tropical forest. The southern peak represents the highest point and is enclosed by lush vegetation that covers the entire area.
The mountain remained largely unknown to outsiders until 2013, when a local guide carved out a path through the jungle to reach the northwestern ridge. The true summit position was confirmed later through subsequent surveys and exploration.
The mountain marks a cultural boundary between Malaysia and Brunei, with the jungle on the Brunei side left untouched while the Malaysian side shows signs of human activity. This contrast reflects how neighboring countries manage their shared mountain border differently.
Reaching the summit demands good fitness and proper preparation, as the trail includes steep sections and dense vegetation that can slow progress. Visitors should bring weather-resistant gear and sturdy footwear, since mist frequently blankets the ridges.
The southern peak contains unusual metal structures typically found only in Peninsular Malaysia, making their presence here surprising. This unexpected discovery hints at hidden geological or historical connections between different parts of the country.
