University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, Malaysian franchise of the University of Nottingham
The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus is a university campus in Semenyih built on a 48-hectare landscaped site with modern buildings, green open spaces, and pathways connecting classrooms, laboratories, a large library, and residential halls. The grounds include over 100 student clubs and societies, sports facilities with a swimming pool and gym, and cafes and shops for daily needs.
The campus opened in September 2000 as the first British university established outside the UK, pioneering international higher education in Malaysia. The location moved to Semenyih in 2005 and has since grown into an established institution serving over 6000 students.
The campus draws students from more than 70 countries, creating daily cultural exchange and interaction throughout the grounds. This diversity shapes how the place feels, with international perspectives visible in conversations, events, and how people from different backgrounds share their traditions and ideas.
The campus is located about 30 kilometers south of Kuala Lumpur and is well served by free shuttle bus services running from the campus grounds. There are bus stops and train connections available for travel into the city and to nearby destinations.
The campus was designed to resemble the university park layout of Nottingham's main campus in the UK, creating a quiet and open character in the Malaysian setting. Students can travel between buildings using small buggies, making the expansive grounds unusually practical for daily movement.
