Tierra Amarilla

Tierra Amarilla is an administrative commune in Copiapó Province in the Atacama Region of northern Chile. The territory spans across diverse landscapes with valleys and hills that define the geography of this administrative district.

The commune emerged from a small settlement shaped by proximity to mining operations in the region. Administrative changes were implemented over time to better organize the expanding territorial administration.

The annual Pampilla festival draws thousands of residents together for live music from local groups like Grupo La Rosa. This event reflects the community's strong connection to gathering and celebrating together throughout the year.

The location is accessible by road and serves as a transit point for exploring the surrounding region. Most basic services and local businesses are found in the central area of the commune.

In August 2022, a geological shift created a sinkhole near the Alcaparrosa copper mine. The crater expanded significantly within days and drew attention from geologists and the media.
