El Ingenio, Archaeological site in Ica, Peru
Located at coordinates 14°38'56.18"S and 75°3'58.90"W, El Ingenio contains numerous geoglyphs spread across the desert landscape of southern Peru.
Archaeological teams from San Luis Gonzaga National University discovered 29 geoglyphs dating from 300 BC to 100 AD during the late Paracas period.
Ten geoglyphs in El Ingenio District display feline figures measuring up to 17 meters long, representing ancient water deities connected to fertility beliefs.
The archaeological site requires proper walking shoes and sun protection as visitors need to traverse desert terrain to view the ancient geoglyphs.
Researchers identified eleven anthropomorphic figures within the district, with ten concentrated specifically in the El Ingenio archaeological zone.
