Sara Sara

Sara Sara rises 5,505 meters above sea level, featuring an oval outline composed of multiple lava flows and domes within the Andes mountain range.

The volcano formed during four distinct stages of activity throughout the Pleistocene period, with its last recorded eruption occurring approximately 14,000 years ago.

Archaeological excavations revealed an Inca ceremonial site at the summit, where researchers discovered the remains of a 15-year-old girl from ancient rituals.

The closest settlement, Pausa, lies 12 kilometers from the volcano base, serving as a starting point for geological expeditions and mountain observations.

The mountain preserves evidence of two separate glacial periods, known as Sara Sara I and Sara Sara II, which shaped its current geological features.
