Herat Province

The province encompasses 54,778 square kilometers of territory along the Afghanistan-Iran border, with the city of Herat as its administrative center.

During medieval times, Herat served as a major city in Khorasan, connecting trade routes between West Asia, Central Asia, and South Asia.

The province maintains a diverse population of Pashtuns, Tajiks, and Hazaras, with Persian-speaking communities forming the majority of inhabitants.

Agriculture drives the local economy with farmers cultivating wheat, saffron, peas, carrots, melons, fruits, nuts, and cotton across the region.

The province produces 90 percent of Afghanistan's saffron output, making it the primary source of this valuable spice in the country.
