Tatev University, Medieval university near Tatev Monastery, Syunik Province, Armenia
The university buildings stand on a basalt plateau overlooking the Vorotan River gorge, adjacent to the historical monastery complex.
Established in 1373, Tatev University became a principal center for manuscript production and the development of Armenian educational traditions.
The university specialized in manuscript illumination, calligraphy, and the teaching of Armenian philosophical and theological studies.
Visitors can reach the university site using the Wings of Tatev aerial tramway, which operates daily and connects Halidzor village to the complex.
The university complex includes stone structures that incorporated advanced architectural techniques for manuscript preservation in controlled environments.
