Laúca Dam, Hydroelectric power station in Malanje Province, Angola.
The Laúca Dam extends 1100 meters across the Kwanza River, reaching a height of 132 meters and creating a reservoir of 5.4 billion cubic meters.
Construction of the facility commenced in 2012, with the first power generator becoming operational during an inauguration ceremony in August 2017.
The power station represents a significant step in Angola's post-civil war development, providing electricity to approximately 8 million residents across the country.
Six vertical axis Francis turbines generate 334 megawatts each, while an ecological flow power plant adds 65.5 megawatts to the total capacity.
The facility stands as the second-largest hydroelectric power station in Africa, producing 8640 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually through its combined turbine system.
